History Preserved, Charleston Inspired.
Tharin House celebrates the legacy of social reform trailblazer, Claudia Gordon Tharin. In 1897, Tharin founded the Christlove Mission of the King’s Daughters with just over $80, creating a refuge for unwed mothers in crisis. Through her leadership, the mission became the Charleston chapter of the
Florence Crittenton program, and found a home at 19 St. Margaret Street.
The newly reimagined residence preserves the spirit of Tharin’s life’s work, offering a place of renewal, purpose, and connection in the heart of Charleston. The historic building remains a testament to Tharin’s vision and impact.
